Carers are now allowed to visit their loved ones without being restricted to visiting hour in a London hospital. People with dementia can now have their carer visit them as the hospital has offered an open all hours approach.

This recognition for carers is a significant breakthrough for John’s Campaign. Co founder, Julie Jones states:

‘The needs of people with dementia are different. Visiting hours do not apply here – family carers are essential.

‘My mum has Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia. She needs me to help her make sense of things. I wouldn’t let her go to the hairdresser alone, I’m blowed if I’m going to leave her alone in hospital without me!’

It is hoped that an open door approach for the carers of vulnerable adults across hospital settings will become the norm

What to say if someone you know is dying

What to do if someone you know is bereaved

It is a very difficult time when you are faced with death either imminently of the aftermath. If you know someone who is dealing with it or going through bereavement, these leaflets offer some helpful insight in to what you could do or expect in these circumstances.

It is not an easy subject to talk about or face but in the long run it is much better to talk about it and bring it in to the open. It is upsetting but also can be rewarding. Dying Matters aims to help people talk more openly about dying, death and bereavement, and to make plans for the end of life.  www.dyingmatters.org  has resources, information, a community and news which can help. It may just be a small step but each one helps.

WE Solicitors are a member of #Dying Matters. If you would like to discuss any issues relating to End of Life or bereavement in terms of the legal issues it can present then please contact us for a free confidential consultation. #yodo
